Brainstorm

The Brain photoPlayed the 1st ever record at Pure ("Sonic Attack" by Hawkwind) and has been there ever since. Has released numerous records on the T&B Label & Subjective Labels, fitting in time to guest everywhere including the opening party for the 1994 World Cup in Detroit (with Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Richie Hawtin, etc...... & of course Twitch). Since the millenium "the brain" has been concentrating on residencies outwith Pure in the Edinburgh area...namely "nameless" & "Radio Babylon", both of which now hold sporadic parties in Edinburgh, follow the links for the most up to date information. Twitch

DJ Twitch photoWas introduced to his Dj partner Brainstorm over ten years ago by the esteemed Admiral Pure and the turntable twins have been together ever since. At Pure from the very beginning the Glasgow based dj has produced records by the mysterious Kelvin Bridge, initally on the T&B Label. Twitch is now recording with MP Lancaster as "Mount Florida", with their first LP released to critical acclaim in summer 2000 on Matador records.

Having officially retired from Pure duties, Twitch can be now be found at the helm of top Glasgow club "OPTIMO" ( espacio ), which has been running since November 1997. The music is SLEAZE FUNK FOR FREAKS which in effect goes from LIQUID LIQUID to 70's avant disco to 80's synth pop to 90's fu**ed up house to FELA KUTI to THE STOOGES to anything that tickles our fancy . The vibe is trashy, stoopid and debauched. Guests have included GANGER, EL HOMBRE TRAJEDO, DAVID HOLMES, HARVEY, I.F., MARSHALL JEFFERSON, DMX KREW and a host of the finest Scottish talent. SAY YES TO ANOTHER EXCESS.

Dribbler

Childhood acquaintance of The Brain,and an original Pure regular The Dribbler got his start at pure as a reluctant MC back in the days when having an MC seemed like a new idea, and graduated to playing records in the tiny downstairs bar once we got it together to buy a second set of record players. After a long apprenticeship in the bar he finally got his chance to play on the main floor on the odd occasions when T&B jetted of to play exotic guest spots. A shady deal involving cheap airline tickets has allowed Dribbler to guest all over europe due to his unquestionable talents on the turntables combined with his unique affordability. Career highlights include his stint as tour DJ on the 1995 Orbital European tour, followed with sporadic Orbital gigs about the place.

Update - The Dribbler has stepped into semi retirement to concentrate on his exhausting playboy lifestyle. He can no longer be found lurking downstairs at Pure as he will only patronise “class joints” and can therefor occasionally be found mixing with the beautiful people in the style bars of NYC when not sunning himself on the beach at his retreat on the Hamptons.

The Bill

The Bill photoAnother original Pure regular who was recruited to play downstairs once it was realised that Dribbler did not have enough records to play all night{and still doesn’t}. One of the tallest DJ’s in Scotland, Bill is a fully qualified Sea Captain and his nautical knowledge is eclipsed only by his comprehensive knowledge of sheep. The Bill is probably the world foremost Tractor racing, Trawler Skippering, Sheep Shearing , Technics Tickler around, and as such has been captain of our tractor racing team since Bills souped up combine harvester destroyed the Slam rotary cultivater in the finals of the Agricultural Grand Prix at the ‘93 Royal Highland Show. The Bill is still occaisionally coaxed out of his semi-retirement to go to the pub or play some records down at those PURE events in Edinburgh.

SANDY PARIS JNR

Sandy Paris JnrOriginally box carrier for the mysterious Johnny Sainsbury AKA Jochem Hertzog (who has absconded to London to star in a range of popular porno movies “Touch up your Mantlepiece Mam” & “You’ve got a dirty shaft, but I’ve got the tool for the job.” surely the Robin Askwith of the 21st Century), Sandy is not only the youngest Pure DJ, but also tends a flock of Angora rabbits from which he knits his own distinctive jumpers. His simultanious Djing and Knitting technique always wows the crowd as he “Mixes One, Pearls One” and who could resist his pattent manouver of “ Cast on, Cast Off, Rewind....” A range of patterns for the Sandy Snood with matching mittens will appear on this Website soon.

When not performing with the Fabulous Flying French Brothers World Reknowned Trapeze act. Sandy, the younger, and slightly less ginger brother, is known to like hanging about in nightclubs and occaisionally spinning a few tunes for the new-laddettes. You can often hear of his underground appearances if you keep your ears to the Leith jungle telegraph. He is also to be found fairly regularly at top new night "nameless" in Edinburgh.
